Environmental Commission clarifies advisory role, seeks open space input
Environmental Commission · Meeting of June 29, 2026
NJ JACKSON — Jackson Environmental Commission clarifies advisory role in open space process. Chair Ray Tremer said the Commission provides only recommendations while the Open Space Committee handles acquisitions. Tremer will formally request increased Environmental Commission involvement from township leadership.
The Commission reviewed multiple applications with environmental concerns: RAM Development faces a requested rehearing due to undocumented wetlands, and 102 Sams Road, a nine-house development, raised significant concerns over Level 4 threatened and endangered species, wetlands, and storm water management issues. The Commission rejected the applicant's environmental methodology, conducted during winter hibernation when protected species are inactive.
