Environmental Commission backs AI data center restrictions letter

NJ JACKSON — Jackson Township Environmental Commission approves call for AI data center restrictions. Chair Ray Tremer III presented a letter to Township Council recommending prohibition or substantial restrictions on large-scale AI data centers, citing six environmental concerns including extraordinary energy demand, water resources, noise, land use incompatibility, traffic, and emerging technology uncertainty. The Commission approved authorization to draft and submit the letter to the Council.
Additionally, the Commission held the RAM Development warehouse project pending complete Environmental Impact Statement and storm water documentation and withheld a letter of no concern for Adventure Crossing Phase 3 and Phase 4 pending environmental issue resolution.
