Jackson Council adopts rent control ordinance; parking measure fails

NJ JACKSON — Jackson Council unanimously adopts updated rent control ordinance with 2.5 percent annual cap. Ordinance 2026-06 extends deed restriction periods to 40 years and implements protections for manufactured home parks and rental apartments, aligning with New Jersey's fourth-round affordable housing framework, Council President Mordechai Burnstein said. The Council rejected parking restrictions on Lehigh Boulevard and Adelphi Drive on a 1-4 vote after resident concerns about neighborhood impact; only Councilman Kenneth Bressi supported the measure.
Eight additional ordinances passed unanimously on first reading, covering stormwater management, dog licensing, street opening standards, and formalization of a Going Green Committee, with Councilman Christopher Pollak abstaining on the stormwater measure over homeowner cost concerns.
